About the European Liberal Arts Network
ELAN - a humanities network
The European Liberal Arts Network (ELAN) connects humanities departments at universities in twelve European countries. The purpose of the network is to promote the international and interdisciplinary exchange of students and teachers in the humanities in the areas of research, teaching and mobility. The connection of top-class European universities through the network is intended to strengthen the position of humanities research and teaching. In addition, the network should open up an attractive field of exchange opportunities for Graz students in the relevant subjects as well as the option of advancing their degree in an interdisciplinary and inter-university manner.
The participation of the University of Graz in the ELAN network is due to the commitment of the Institute of Philosophy and the interest of the ELAN partners in its diverse academic offerings. The Institute provides the ELAN coordinator and coordinates all activities of the University of Graz within this network.
As part of their participation in the ELAN program, students can work with highly qualified researchers in other European countries, gain experience abroad, pursue an individual study project that can also prepare an interdisciplinary and inter-institutional thesis, and earn a certificate that proves their academic success in a network of renowned European universities.
A further aspect of the network, in addition to student mobility, is to bring the participating university partners closer together. Regular network and working meetings, guest stays, guest lectures and the exchange of lecturers are intended to establish closer cooperation between the participating institutions.
Program participants can receive an ELAN certificate after fulfilling all requirements. It is an attractive addition to the students' academic credentials, certifying their versatility, entrepreneurial and social responsibility and improving their employment prospects.
